On Saturday June 8 the Blackrock Youth Festival is hosted at the Blackrock Castle Observatory with a free family fun day during the Ocean to City festival which is organised by Cork based community boat builders Meitheal Mara.

Tara Oceans Exhibition, A Worldwide Portrait of Marine Plankton

Tara Oceans Exhibition is the very first attempt to make a global study of marine plankton.

“Studying plankton is like taking the pulse of the planet” says Dr Emmanuel Reynaud, from UCD, who points out that scientists are hoping “to better understand the functioning and diversity of marine life and its response to climate change”.

They have captured unique images of fish corals, flora and plankton that were discovered during a recent expedition of a scientific team on the schooner Tara and these are going to be displayed in both courtyard and exhibition space.

Planet Ocean

This 90 minute film takes us on a magnificent and unprecedented journey into the heart of the least known regions of our planet.

The film narrates the most marvellous and also the most terrifying human experiences of our time. Filmed in extreme geographical conditions all over the globe, it describes the modern Odyssey of people who go out to discover their blue planet.

This will be shown in the Blackrock Castle theatre.
