Defence and Citizenship Day 2012

The second annual Defence and Citizenship Day (Journée de Défense et Citoyenneté) was held on Saturday, February 4th at the Lycée Français d’Irlande (LFI). This year, 82 teenagers participated in the event which is designed as an important step in the "route to citizenship.".

Several speakers (Colonel Laurent Kolodziej, Ground Forces Attaché; Captain Yves Le Corre, Naval Attaché; Gendarme Salvatore Inserra; and Adjudant-Chef Christèle Lemaire) presented on issues of defense as well as the rights and duties of the citizen.

With this being an election year, the event also served to remind its participants of the importance of civic duty and to strengthen links between the young French expatriate community and France itself.

Concluding the day, Emmanuelle d’Achon, Ambassador of France in Ireland, recalled the importance attached to these "moments of exchange and sharing, for joining the French community together around the values of our country."
