Final of the Budding Ambassadors
Final of the Budding Ambassadors (Ambassadeurs en Herbe) program at UNESCO (May13 to 14, 2014)
The final of the Budding Ambassadors (Ambassadeurs en Herbe) program set up by the Agency for French Education Abroad and co-sponsored by UNESCO will take place from May 13 to 14 at UNESCO’s headquarters in the presence of Ms. Annick Girardin, Minister of State for Development and Francophony, and Mr. Nicolas Hulot, Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of France for the Protection of the Planet.
The Budding Ambassadors competition, which was launched in 2013 throughout the network of French lycées abroad, involves oral debates on major international issues, promoting multilingualism, the art of public speaking and openness to others. This year, in anticipation of the 2015 Paris Climate Conference (COP 21) which is to be hosted by France next year, more than 13,000 students from 49 countries participated in debates on the topic of “Climate and responsibility.” The process to select 50 finalists involved several stages, with the aim of identifying teams by geographical area.
This initiative reflects the determination of the Agency for French Education Abroad, which coordinates a network of 488 schools in 130 countries and has more than 320,000 students of all nationalities, to implement educational activities that bring together all of the schools in order to collaborate on joint projects.
