Political relations

Political relations with Ireland are good and France’s capacity for initiative has a strong impact, with which the Irish most often associate. The partnership between France and Ireland is remarkable in more ways than one in the field of European affairs. The French and Irish agree on many international and community issues (UN reform, Official Development Assistance, CAP and fisheries, financial perspectives, CFSP).

Visits to France in 2011 and 2012 included Ministers Simon Coveney (Agriculture), Lucinda Creighton (European Affairs), Richard Bruton (employment, enterprise, innovation) and Michael Noonan (Finance). These visits demonstrate the dynamism of the political relationship between France and Ireland.

The development of cooperation in research and innovation has been identified as a priority at bilateral level. The field of green energies also represent a significant potential for both countries.
