Translation is Fun!

Come and explore the creative challenges of translation!

Experience what it feels like to translate a short story, a poem, or a character’s name from one language into another. Invent weird new creatures: come up with a translation of their French names and draw them to help us create a fun bestiary. Discover and compare book covers of translations from all over the world. Translate short, humorous poems based on the alphabet. Adapt the wordplay in characters’ names to help them find a name in English… and many more entertaining activities!

In small groups we will focus on humour, cultural references, and giving life to characters and strange animals in children’s books. We will use examples from French and English, but a knowledge of French is not essential to enjoy our activities. Drop in for a short while or come for the whole session. We look forward to seeing you.
